Details of one of the Heritage Exhibits, on County Mayo, have been posted to the website.
Mayo is a county fabled for its landscape of mountains, lakes, rivers, flat boglands, Atlantic coast, its islands, and the fjord of Killary Harbour. Aside from its spectacular scenery, Mayo also has a rich archaeological, historical and sporting heritage, and has produced many famous Irish people and a movie with John Wayne that you may have heard about. What movie? We'll tell you, on Labor Day weekend.
To this day there are still songs sung about the International Airport in Mayo established almost single-handedly by a Monsignor, and the good people of Mayo also gave the world the word "boycott", albeit with some help from Captain Charles Boycott himself. However the reason I particularly love Mayo is because one of the most astonishingly beautiful views in the world is from the summit of Croagh Patrick (affectionately called "The Reek" by locals). But if you can't make that pilgrimage this year then I'd recommend the pilgrimage to Crown Center and the Mayo Exhibit on Labor Day weekend. And if you can, well what better way to whet your appetite?
