KC Irish Fest advance ticket outlet Bloomsday Books is this year again holding a celebration of Bloomsday, in honor of James Joyce’s "Ulysses". The novel recounts the hour-by-hour events of one day in Dublin—June 16, 1904—as an ordinary Dubliner, Leopold Bloom, wends his way through the city. Bloomsday is the annual celebration among Joyce fans throughout the world.
This year is the first at the new location for Bloomsday Books, at 1518 Walnut St., in the Crossroads section of Kansas City. Held on Saturday, June 11, the event is free and features Irish Fest performer Eddie Delahunt, a Dubliner himself, doing what he does beginning at 5 p.m. The Brookside Players will perform a dramatized version of selections from the novel, and throughout the day there will be readings from the book. So if you can't make it to Davy Byrne's of Dublin for Burgundy and Gorgonzola cheese, then Bloomsday Books is the perfect introduction to matters Joycean.
Food, drink, Irish culture. Celebrate Bloomsday? Yes I said yes I will yes.
