Mairtin In Town

Many years ago I was introduced to a bright eyed, curly headed, rosy cheeked young Cork lad. He had pluck, this one. A sparkle in his eye and a spring in his step. And we took a chance on him and booked him and his band to play here at Irish Fest. Well, from those humble beginnings that young boy eventually went back to Ireland and was never heard from again. We also think he stole some t-shirts.

But Máirtín de Cógáin, on the other hand has gone on from a similar beginning to great heights indeed. Film star, singer, seanachie, musician, raconteur, gadabout.  And he will be bringing all those gifts and more to Eddie Delahunt's Cafe & tomorrow night for a rare KC appearance and performance. If you've seen Máirtín's show I'm preaching to the choir here. You're probably already at Eddie's waiting. If you haven't, well you need to go see this. Máirtín is a wonder, his seemingly boundless talents outpaced only by his Energized Bunny energy and joie de vivre*. If you can sit through his entire show without laughing out loud and leaving feeling better than you did when you walked in, I'll personally give you your cover change money back**.

Eddie's Cafe & is on Bell Street just off 45th in the antiques district, which is why they allow old Eddie to be there. The show is at 7:00 on Thursday. Call Eddie for more info at 816-753-3322.

* Irish for "fancy red cowboy shirt."
**I speak metaphorically here.
