At Irish Fest we have a staff with mad skills. And I'm not just talking about festival-putting-on skills. For example our volunteer coordinator Sarah Walsh carves adorable garden gnomes out of huge piles of butter. Heritage stage boss Dick McTygue is a world class synchronized swimmer. Public Safety chief Matt O'Callaghan is an accomplished harpsichord player and can kill a man with his bare hands.
And site foreman John Hayes can smoke a slab of ribs that can bring a grown man to tears.
John will bring his BBQ mastery to the Wheels and Squeels Barbeque Contest next weekend and if you have any sense at all, you'll head out there and beg for a sample. I speak from experience. I had some of John's pulled pork at a 4th of July party and I was in heaven. Smoky, saucy, piggy heaven.
The contest runs Thursday through Saturday in Olathe, KS. Bring the kids, bring the spouse, bring a cow and have John throw it in the smoker for you.
The "Wheels 'n' Squeels BBQ Challenge" is held on the grounds of Olathe Bible Church, located at 13700 W 151st Street, Olathe, KS (Northwest corner of Pflumm and 151st). You can take I35 South or 435 West to 69 highway South, then exit at 151st street, turn right (west) go 3.6 miles to Pflumm. Look for the CelticQue tent with the Irish Fest banner.
