Before your trip to Browne's Irish Street Faire this Saturday, why not head out to Sporting KC's facility in Swope Park, to see some Gaelic football and hurling. The Kansas City Gaelic Athletic Club will be holding their third annual Midwest Gaelic Classic. Last year the KCGAC Wolfhounds took top honors in the football tournament, but our local lads will face tough competition to retain the title with teams from Denver, St. Louis and Minneapolis-St. Paul seeking the crown. In addition a hurling match will take place in the afternoon to showcase the development of this sport within the club in recent months.
Activities will commence at 9am with a parade of teams and singing of the national anthems of Ireland and the USA, with the first games at 9.30am. No need to bring a lunch as Chris Cakes will be onsite from 11 to 1 providing all-you-can-eat hamburgers, hotdogs and other goodies for $8.
The actions will be on the field throughout the day and with the final starting around 3pm. Afterwards teams with retire to Charlie Hoopers to quench their thirst on the way to Browne's. The club wishes to apologize in advance for any sweating men seen at either location!
If you can't make it to the tournament and are interesting in playing (or watching) check out their website (www.kcgac.org) for the latest details on practice times, games and everything else you need to know.
