Progress

Some years ago, you old timers may recall, we used to kick off KC Irish Fest volunteer sign up on April 1st. Of course back in those days we had to write down the names and contact information for each volunteer on a fragment of slate using a burnt stick for a pencil. Those primitive "note cards" were then loaded on to the backs of trained tortoises and transported from the volunteer coordinator's office to Irish Fest HQ, a journey of some 25 feet which could often take 3 or 4 days to complete. Volunteers were contacted through a series of Morse-coded drum beats, and we hoped like hell they happened to be listening.

Now of course we have computers. Things move lightning fast around here and so we don't need nearly so much time to get our 1100 beautiful, intelligent, sexy volunteers processed and slotted into their dream jobs at Irish Fest. So consequently volunteer sign up day keeps getting moved. Now you have all the way until June 1st to sit and weigh the merits of raffle ticket selling versus recycling, Saturday morning shifts versus Sunday evening. Of course we're hoping that if you think about it until June 1st you'll realize–beautiful, intelligent, sexy volunteer that you are–that you can do all those things by signing up for multiple shifts.

So for now, relax. Have another beer. Put your feet up. You have until the first of June. But then, be ready. You don't want your dream job* to get away and go to a less beautiful, intelligent, sexy volunteer. In days and weeks to come. we'll be talking about those dream jobs, so stay tuned.

I'm ready to help out in a big way this year.

Got the toe wet with the volunteering lark but this year I'm going to be everywhere. Can't wait to sign up!
