We had an entertainment committee meeting last night. Always fun, always exciting. Obviously we all love Irish music of all types. That's why we work so hard all year to bring it to you every Labor Day weekend. But committee member Jeff Petrie, never a man to mince words when it comes to music or anything else offered up this challenge. There are those songs...maybe you liked them once. The first thousand times you heard them. Maybe not. But even for die-hard fans of Irish music there are those fingernails on the blackboard songs. As Jeff put it "the songs I never want to hear again." Jeff's choices for this dubious list: "Danny Boy" and "Whiskey In The Jar."
Personally I think "Danny Boy" is the finest song ever written. My nomination: "Black Velvet Band" which makes me want to pour wet cement in my ears and, don't kill me for this, "Ride On." Seriously, is it just me or is that song about a guy getting busy with a horse? I can tolerate Christy Moore's recordings of it. Barely. Anybody else singing it? Hand me the cement.
So there's a start. What about you? Which old Irish chestnut makes your ears bleed? Click that comments button and let us know.

I'm tired of hearing "You've put the Lousiana Liplock on my love porkchop" by Mojo Nixon, but I guess that's not an Irish song.
OK, I really hate hearing Celtic Symphony by the Wolfe tones.
Silver Spear.
KCIF, 2005. Wandering from stage to stage, set to set, EVERY BAND played Silver Spear in a set. We were never out of earshot of it.
I haven't been the same since...
Finnegan's Wake-by anybody-
and
Lisdoonvarna-Christy Moore.
Gotta agree with you on Finnegan's Wake. Bury it already.
