The calendar says September 1st. The weather says the extreme heat is on the way out, at least for a little while. The little countdown thingy on my computer says just 2 days until Irish Fest. So we begin winding down our much-loved* Ten Things In No Particular Order Not To Miss At Irish Fest This Year list.
Number 2.
Screaming Orphans.
Let's get this out of the way: the Screaming Orphans are neither screaming, nor to the best of my knowledge are they orphans. What they are is one of the most entertaining bands you'll see on stage anywhere. The 4 Diver sister from Donegal in the wild northwest of Ireland, Joan, Gráinne, Angela and Marie Thérése are talented, funny, engaging, funny and jaysus are they funny. Their set is unpredictable; a set of traditional Irish tunes followed by The Violent Femmes. Whiskey In The Jar preceded by Sweet Home Alabama...Donegal style. If you don't have fun at this show, check your vitals. The Screaming Orphans play Friday at 7:00 on the Boulevard Stage and Saturday at 6:30, same stage.
*Well, my mom likes it.
