Comments Open

Since I'm too wrecked to write, I'll open it up to you. Tell us what you thought of this year's fest. We love your input.

Awesome fest. And great weather to go with all the great work the organizers and volunteers did. Well, except the wind on Sunday causing them to have to take the video screen down.

The further expansion into Washington Park was nice. Liked the Park stage. I wonder how that will work out when it's rainy, though.

Of the unfamiliar bands, I particularly like McPeak and Evans & Doherty.

Eileen Ivers & Immigrant Soul, Pogey, and the Elders all lived up to my high expections.

The Mighty Craic was fun, and seemed better organized than last year.

We didn't even consider going this year because of the $15 tickets (2 adults.) Although we like to go to such events, we usually don't stay long - drop in, eat, stroll around, listen to a little music, then off to something else. Just not worth it. Wish you the best of luck.

I'm sorry to hear that, but you know you could have saved $10 by buying your ticket in advance either through our website or online. And Friday was two for one. Hope we see you next year.

We also didn't even consider going this year based solely on price.

Really? The price was too high to see all those bands? But if you're not going for the music then I suppose it was.

I'm with the folks who were turned off because of the entry price. At quick glance about the event, I saw the $15/person entry fee. I stopped looking at the ad, missing any discounts.

We figured we could have more enjoyment from our money, so we spent that money on a really great dinner.

The festival was fantastic. My husband and I traveled down from Des Moines, despite my broken leg. The festival grounds were really accessible for me in my wheelchair and the staff and volunteers went out of their way to make sure I had whatever I needed and directed us to special seating areas, which were really appreciated.
The music was amazing and we just couldn't get to all the groups we wanted to see. We absolutely loved Cara and 2Duos and hope one or both will be back next year.
Congratulations to the Irish Fest Staff and Board for a wonderfully successful Festival. I really think it is the best in the country.
Can't wait for next year!

I have been bringing the family to your fest for the last 7 years. We have always had a great time. It has become a family event we look forward to all year long. The increase of gate admission is to be expected with the great variety of activities. The only issue I have is the quality of music over the last two years. Big name acts have been missing. Not that the acts havn't been great, just missing several BIG acts.

Can you give me some names of acts you'd have liked to see? We start booking for 2011 pretty much right now.

We had a great time, and the festival gets better and better every year. We traveled down from Omaha and stayed at the Westin, which worked out great! I loved the new Park Stage and although bands like the Screaming Orphans, Red Hot Chilli Pipers, and Pogey are great, I found myself drawn to the more more traditional acts, and the Park Stage was a perfect setting for them.

I realize the Elders are a big deal in Kansas City and they are considered the headliners because of their local ties; however, it is disappointing to me that they only play 1 show and its Sunday night. We head home on Sunday afternoon and have not seen them play the festival since they played a Saturday night show a few years ago.

Great job with another succesful IrishFest!!!

Would love to see Gaelic Hit Factory, Altan, Solas, Tannahill Weavers, Damien Dempsey, Danu, Flogging Molly. Have been fortunate to see a few of these acts at your fest, would love to see more.

We came in on Saturday and stayed at the Hyatt. My husband and I greatly appreciated that tickets were included with our room. We saw Red Hot Chili Pipers, Screaming Orphans, and of course Pogey and all the music was wonderful. The weather was delightful ( how'd you manage that?) and also enjoyed mass on Sunday morning. Due to serious time constraints, I wasn't able to volunteer this year which caused me anxiety but Sue helped me out by greeting me. I'll be back next year...!

LOVED the fest this year, and I just wanted to point out for those who were put off by the $15 gate price that you can get in FREE (plus a ticket for another person or day) for volunteering, which is great fun in & of itself! So, next year, look into volunteering and sign up early to get your choice of spots! :)

Loved KCIF as always. One request for next year...PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring Cara back. While you are at it, it would be nice to see Gaelic Storm and The Fuscia Band again.

By the way, what happened to the Kelihans this year?

Danny Regan said...

Tom, I can tell you that Gaelic Storm is booked for 2011 already for 2 nights.

The Kelihans were given a year off, but I'm sure you haven't seen the last of them.

How about The Frames? They are the best Festival band from Ireland I've ever seen.

A big Thank You to all the volunteers who put in so many hours of hard work to make this such a great festival! I wish I could have caught all the bands but I loved the ones I saw.

I was somewhat surprised by the comments here about the ticket prices. Everyone has different interests and expectations at an event like this but I think most people would recognize what a great value you get at Irish Fest. Try seeing any of these bands at a concert venue and you will probably pay more than $15 for one show. And when was the last time Kila or Hothouse Flowers played in your hometown? If the music is not your main interest then by all means check out the many other activities and decide if they fit into your budget.

P.S. That had to be an amazing dinner to beat a day at Irish Fest!

Jenny and I hardly got out of our snuggly Snug, so please post some video on here soon, K?
I know, I know, that's not your area -- haha!

I did think that Kila & Quixotic were truly outstanding.

Yeah... that fest was awful. There were way too many people enjoying themselves. Laughing children? BAH!! It was too sunny, too windy, and too many cars. Did I mention loud? Those darn happy people cheering and clapping kept me up till midnight. I couldn't hear my Cure records and it was hard to wallow in my self pity while heating my can of spam over a Sterno can. BEGONE Irish Festers! (grumbles off into the distance)
