Ye Take The High Road, I'll Take Highway 169 Over The Broadway Bridge

The Kansas City Scottish Highland Games are this weekend, full of great music featuring lots of once and future Kansas City Irish Fest performers like Enter The Haggis, Tullamore, The Three Dollar Band, The Shortleaf Band, The Kelihans, Kelly, Ellis Island, Bob Reeder, Eddie Delahunt and Flannigans's Right Hook. And of course lots of good Scottish people, including men in kilts.

I occasionally tease a segment of the kilt guys here at Tir na Blog, and just so the Scots don't pound me into the ground this weekend with those big telephone poles they toss around, let me just say I have absolutely nothing against the Scottish people or kilts on Scotsmen. I actually have great affection for the Scottish people–some more than others and you know who you are–their music and their culture. When I take jabs at the kilt guys, it isn't the Scots or Scottish-Americans in kilts I'm jabbing. Kilts have a long, proud history. In Scotland. Not in Ireland. Irishmen wear pants.

But I digress. Head out to the Highland Games this weekend. Wear your kilt if you have one. Buy Dr. Henry Spangler a pint. Eat some Haggis. Toss a caber. Should be a great time.

The Kansas City Scottish Highlands Games and Celtic Festival is at E.H. Young Park in Riverside, Missouri.
