Volumes On Volunteers

We're hoping to sign up loads of you potential volunteers at the Browne's event on Saturday, and only partly because we're bribing you (see below). We treat our volunteers very well, no doubt about it...free shirts, free tickets, free refreshments, etc...but we know that's not why most of you sign up.

All of us at Irish Fest, save our single employee, are volunteers. From the president and the rest of the board of directors to the guy helping you with your stroller at the stairs to the girl selling you the winning raffle ticket. From the woman pouring your stout to the man taking your ticket. Volunteerism is at the proud heart of what we are. And we do this hard work for the same reasons you do. Because we love and believe in this event and what it has and can accomplish. Because we treasure the new friendships and fun that every Irish Fest brings. Because we know the importance of being part of something bigger than ourselves that makes our city a better–and much more fun–place to be.

I know that not everybody has such warm fuzzy feelings for volunteers. I'm sure there are some misguided people who think that the absence of a paycheck means an absence of legitimacy, that being a volunteer is by definition a mark of insignificance. Lucky for you, we know better at Irish Fest. Because, dear volunteer, we're you.

Join us. There's never going to be a better time than this weekend, for the reasons I mentioned above and the reason I'll mention in the next post. Irish Fest is just 78 days away. Be a part of it. Volunteer.
