I'm very sad to report news of the passing of a long time Irish Fest vendor and friend of the festival.
Barry Thomas Hendrickson, fine art photographer
December 30, 1957 - May 16, 2010
Barry Thomas Hendrickson, the photographer of Ireland in Black and White, died on May 16, 2010, after a three and a half year battle with pancreatic cancer. The fine art and Irish communities will feel the loss of this talented man for a long time.
Barry's unbridled enthusiasm drew people into conversations about photography and Irish history. His dramatic black and white landscapes of Ireland often evoke emotional responses from viewers, especially ones with Irish heritage.
As a close-knit team, his wife Nancy joined Barry as he traveled across the United States revealing the essence of Ireland's time and place through his photography. They have exhibited in more than 26 different cities across the country over the last five years. Nancy plans to honor Barry's legacy by displaying and selling the wide assortment of his fine art black and white photographs, including at the 2010 Kansas City Irish Fest.
Barry also judged and provided the grand prize for our annual Irish Fest photography contests. He will be missed by all of us at Irish Fest who knew him and loved his work.
There is a a memorial fund set up for Barry's wife and daughter at The Hendrickson Memorial Fund c/o TCF Bank 2163 Ford Pkwy., St. Paul, MN 55116.
