Irish president Mary McAleese has initiated a competition to generate ideas that might ramp up the faltering Irish economy. Called "Your Country, Your Call", the program seeks two ideas that will give the slumbering Celtic tiger a poke in the ribs, and will in turn award the authors of those ideas a big cash prize.
I'm telling you about it for two reasons. One, because I know you're a clever lot and I'm quite sure that one if not both of the winning concepts will come from Tir na Blog readers. And two, because the lovely Joan Collins, mother of former Irish Fest director and current comedy stage committee chair Ronan Collins appears in the promotional videos for the program. And we love Joan.
Learn more about the program and see Joan (at 00:48, in the middle, dressed in red) here. Fair play, Joan! Did you meet Christy Moore and can you convince him to play at Irish Fest?
