A Presidential Farewell

A message from Ed Follis, the 2009 president of the Kansas City Irish Fest:

 Thank You!

As I get ready to complete my term as Board Member and as President of the Kansas City Irish Fest, I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you. I feel so fortunate to have been involved with Irish Fest for the last twelve years. Working on Irish Fest has truly been one of the greatest experiences of my life. While I will continue to be involved with Irish Fest going forward, I just wanted to express my sincere appreciation to all of you who have helped make Irish Fest what it is today.

From the earliest days until today, the people involved with putting on this event are what make Irish Fest so special. People I didn’t even know twelve years ago have become my closest friends. The staff at KCIF is incredible. There is a wonderful organizational culture that fosters a special bond between all of us who work on Irish Fest. Thank you to everyone on staff at KCIF. It has been a true honor being president of our organization.

Being a founding board member, I’ve been asked often over the last few weeks how I feel coming off the board of KCIF. While there are many things I will miss about being on the board, I feel very proud of what we have all achieved together as a community. I know that much of our success today can be attributed directly to the partnership formed in the early days between the Brookside and the Westport Irish Festivals. I feel that it is a tremendous tribute to the organization we have set in place when founding board members can step away knowing the organization they helped to create will be stronger tomorrow than it is today. The foundation is set, I feel like a proud parent watching their kids grow-up.

While my role with Irish Fest is about to change, my involvement level with Irish Fest will remain the same. It has been so much fun watching Irish Fest grow from its infancy to what it is today. Thanks for a great run, I look forward to the next leg of the race.

Ed Follis

Thank you very much Ed, the Kansas City Community will forever be indebted to you. Very few people will ever understand your dedication and behind the scene work.

As I said to Ed yesterday if it wasn't for his wanting to do a "little festival" in a shopping area parking lot, we wouldn't be the Kansas City Irish Fest today.
It has been a great association and friendship that I know will continue the rest of our lives.

Hats off to you Ed.
