Next

I hope you had a nice Christmas and if you're in Kansas City that not too much of it was spent shoveling snow. Later this week a growing tradition in Kansas City reappears, the celebration of Irish New Year. Chances are the Irish pub close to you will count down from 10 at 6:00 PM, maybe pop a champagne cork or two and cheer as 2010 arrives in Ireland 6 hours before it gets to the American Midwest.

Eddie Delahunt anchors one such celebration at O'Dowd's little Dublin on the Plaza from 5:00 - 9:00. The Gaf will be Auld Lang Syne-ing as well. If you're downtown, head to Raglan Road to ring out the old. And if your local hasn't adopted this tradition, walk in at 5:30 or so and start it off yourself. All it takes is a few friends and the ability to count backwards from 10. I can only think of a couple people who couldn't manage that.
