IMA 2009

Seems like every few days I'm telling you to go vote for one thing or another, but this is an important one. The Irish Music Association Awards are now accepting your votes, and there are a whole bunch of past present (and future) KC Irish Festers up for awards. KCIF alumni nominees in various and sundry categories include Slide, Ellis Island, Seamus Kennedy, Gaelic Storm, Bad Haggis, The Indulgers, Seven Nations, Cherish the Ladies, Mairtin De Cogain & Jimmy Crowley, The Wolfe Tones, Eric Rigler and a band that absolutely blew away the Kansas City crowds in 2009 in their first appearance here, Cara. If you saw any of them here and loved it, tell the world with your votes.

It's easy and quick. Registration is required, but it's free and simple. So go do it! The complete list of nominees is below. Vote the KCIF ticket in the IMA's!

Wow, I thought I was voting on some kind of big international awards. It's Bob Reeder who puts this on?! I registered and got an email reply from rtreeder@comcast.net. I don't have a problem with this, it just seemed a little larger than just Bob Reeder, being called the Irish Music Association. Maybe it should be called the Irish Music Association of Kansas City or the Irish Music Association brought to you by Bob Reeder.

IMHO.

Thanks for your post on the IMA Awards. I owe you big.
Anonymous,
True, this thing has gotten bigger than Bob Reeder.
But then, it was never meant to be about Bob Reeder.
It is about Irish music.
In just a year + it has turned into an international monster all its own. The public and the membership of the IMA make the nominations on line and then the public and membership vote for who they think is the best in each category. This is the fairest way we can do this without a dictatorial process, and the IMA Forum allows the latitude for discussion on each artist and category. This whole process may be quite an education in Irish music, and what people perceive it to be. I am truly amazed at what is happening. O'Malley's pub may have some challenges this year getting everyone in who says they're coming. We have people coming from all over the States and one guy from Germany called to say he was coming. IMA membership is increasing. Your vote counts more if you are a member. Anonymous, thanks for your comment, but this really not about my ego. We started this back in 1999 and it has taken a long time, and a lot of money to get our ducks in a row. I hope people will participate, not for me, but for the multitudes of great Irish musicians from this planet who deserve the accolades this award will represent.
Anyway, Irish music now has its own awards show and does not have to be a red-headed step child of the Grammy awards, the Meteor awards, or an add-on in an Irish film given out by the Oscars.
All the best
Bob
