Irish Fest executive director Keli O'Neill Wenzel turns 23 today, Christmas Eve, and we wish her the happiest day possible. Being an old timer, I remember the days when the Kansas City Irish Fest was a new born baby fest and we stumbled along Keliless for a time. Trust me when I say those were dark days, full of darkness, confusion, dissent, fist fights and occasional gun play. The day we hired Keli (who was, it seemed to us about 12 years old at the time) was like having Santa not only arrive with gifts for all of us, but also agreeing to stay all year and keep giving.
Happy birthday to a dear friend, a wonderful person, a tireless coworker, an interesting dancer and an immeasurably talented festival planner. We love you Keli! Have a great day.
