It pains me to do this since they're our competitors in the annual Visitors' Choice Awards for best outdoor festival or event again this year, but if you're in Kansas City you should go to the Plaza Art Fair this weekend. Just make sure you go at very specific times. Namely Saturday from 11:45 to 1:15 and 1:30 to 3:00. Those are the times you can see past KC Irish Fest performers Jonathan Ramsey and the band Kelly, respectively. Jonathan will be on the new "Plaza Unplugged" stage at Central Street and Nichols Road. The website says it's "near the Starbucks", but isn't that kind of like saying "near the tree"? Kelly will perform on St. Luke's Hospital Main Stage on the Wornall Bridge over Brush Creek.
Actually, stick around at 3:15 Saturday for Kevin Kissinger. He plays an instrument called the Theremin. You know what this is even if you've never heard of it. You know the music in old sci-fi movies from the '50's and 60's, the spacey sounding "woooOOOOooooweeee" kind? That's a Theremin. You play it by waving your hand between two electrified wires. It may be the only musical instrument you play without actually touching it.
But mostly, go for Jonathan and Kelly. And if you're a visitor, do NOT have more fun than you had at Irish Fest. And if you do, don't tell the Convention and Visitors Bureau about it.

Aww, schucks! I had a blast, at my show and at Kelly's. When, though, do I not have a great time singing in Kansas City? Thanks to all of you who came out too! You're the best, KC!
