From Shawn Sullivan Warner and the Irish Fest Kids Club:
KC Irish Fest News Bulletin- KC Kids Club
Just a Fact: The Kansas City Irish Festival Children's Area went through 540 lbs of candy this year in their famous Wackalaylees. That isn't counting the pounds of lollipops that were given away for entry into the Coloring Contest. Like the adults being asked for feedback on their areas, we like to hear from the kids too! Did you like the Stage acts? The obstacle course? Strumming your own guitar to Irish music? The balloon artists? KC Irish Fest Bingo? The face painters? Share a favorite moment or something we need to do better!
And stay alert, the Children's Area will be announcing winners very soon on the website, including the cow's name and the winner of the wonderful dragon. The cow has 687 possible names this year, and the coloring contest had well over 1000 entries. We can tell you that the cow's name is not "BOB" (14 entries), Bessie (23 entries), Cow (6 entries), or Pat O'Neill (one entry). Stay tuned, we have a 4 ft cow that will be going home to some deserving cow naming Children's area guest.
My special moments at the fest were watching the members of the Kid's Club volunteer with understanding, seriousness and a mission. Special thanks to Mackenzie, Jake, Erin, Mikayla, Maura, Maddie, Kelsey, Colleen, Patrick, Joseph, and Katie and pre-fest set-up by Michael, Nathanial and Cassie. We couldn't do the Fest without these kids, they are absolutely awesome. And they are back to a HALLOWEEN THEME in 2010, so please send your ideas to any of these Kid's Club Members, they love hearing from you.
