Friends,
I'm sorry for the late notice, but I wanted to let everyone know that the Kansas City Gaelic Athletic Club will be hosting their first match of the season tomorrow, Saturday, May 9th, taking on Springfield (who I'm sure are a terrible group of louts, hooligans, and neer-do-wells - or even worse, Cardinals fans) at 1 PM on the field at Southwest High School - 66th and Wornall. It's looking like it will be a gorgeous day, so what better way to while away a sunny Saturday afternoon then by relaxing and supporting friends while taking in a new and exciting sport. Make it even better by bringing a picnic basket and cooler of some of your seasonal favorites. Join us afterward at Lew's Bar and Grill (on the SE corner of 75th and Wornall, in Waldo) who is one of the sponsors of our pub league and will have great specials for everyone that went to the match.
For those unfamiliar with the sport, gaelic football is an old Irish game that is halfway between rugby and soccer - but older than both and it is also where both sports came from. It is fast-paced and high scoring and a lot of fun to watch!
And while I've got your attention, circle your calenders now for Saturday, June 27th. The KCGAC will be hosting their first annual gaelic football tournament with teams visiting from Minneapolis, Little Rock, and Springfield. It will be held in Swope Park at the Wizards practice facility (63rd and Lewis) and will be a great day. Among other things, we'll have food and beer for the adults, an inflatable play area for kids to run off some of that energy, and some other Irish culture surprises.
Hopefully, you will be able to stop by for a bit Saturday afternoon and/or join us afterward for a good time at Lews!
