Film News

Professor Joan Dean, who has forgotten more about Irish film than most of us will ever know, writes to inform us about an upcoming movie event that you won't want to miss:
Hi Dan.

The Tivoli is going to open a film called Hunger that deals with (Irish political prisoner, MP and hunger striker) Bobby Sands on May 1. It has won all sorts of awards, including the BAFTA for best film.

See:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0986233/

It's directed by Steve McQueen, and just so there's no confusion: this Steve McQueen.
It's supposed to be very good, but very strong.

Thanks

Joan Dean

A (very talented) English black man in a kilt has written and directed an Irish film about Bobby Sands. Should be interesting indeed.

You know what Christy Moore said when he heard on the BBC that a Brit, Seamus Heaney, had won the Nobel Prize?
"They never claimed Bobby Sands."
