Well, here it is President's Day again. It seems an appropriate time to get to know our newish president here at the Kansas City Irish Fest, Ed Follis. Like all presidents, Ed is an important, historical guy and there are all sorts of interesting historical type things you may not know him. Such as:
• On his first day in office, Ed signed a landmark bill called "The Brew Deal" which looked to increased Boulevard Beer consumption as a way out of our economic doldrums.
• In a nod to other historical presidents, Ed is fond of wearing a tall top hat and a powdered wig, sometimes simultaneously.
• As a child, Ed chopped down his father's cherry pie and when asked about it said "Father, I cannot tell a lie. Scanlon did it."
• In his inaugural address, Ed famously said "the only thing we have to fear is 13 inches of rain over Labor Day weekend. Also grizzly bears."
• Of Irish Fest's 4 presidents, Ed is amazingly only the second one named Ed.
• President Ulysses S. Grant is buried in Grant's Tomb. As overseer of Irish Fest's community grants program, Ed gives grants to 'em. Coincidence?
• Ed's middle name is "Hussein."
A very happy President's Day to Ed and all our former presidents, Bob, Ed and that other guy.
