It's Back

The traditional kick off to the St. Patrick's Day season used to be the big show, usually headlined by the Wolfetones, put on by the local Ancient Order Of Hibernians chapter out at the National Guard Armory in Kansas City, KS. It was always a who's-who in the Irish community event and its demise a few years ago left a sizable hole in the Irish social calendar. Hell, I even found a wife there once. Happily, that event is making a comeback, in a slightly altered and updated form, and with a new fund raising mission.

The AOH, The Kansas City St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee and Redemptorist parish present the rebirth of a brand new tradition. Derek Warfield and The Young Wolfetones kick start the holiday season at 7:00 PM, Friday, February 27th in the Redemptorist School gymnasium on Linwood, just east of Broadway. Tickets, available at Browne's Irish Deli, Eddie Delahunt's Cafe &, Sheehan's Irish Imports, Doherty & Sullivan's and the Celtic Ranch, are just $15. In addition, a shrimp dinner is being provided by the AOH for a special price with admission ticket to the concert. The Grand Marshal of the 2009 parade will be announced that night, as well as the AOH Irishman of The Year.

The entire evening is being dedicated to the memory of PJ and Mollie Cullinan. Proceeds will go to repair the recent vandalism to the grotto on the Redemptorist church grounds, the AOH scholarship fund and the parade.

If you saw the Young Wolfetones at Irish Fest this year, you won't want to miss this show. If you didn't see the Young Wolfetones at Irish Fest this year, you won't want to miss this show. If you love the St. Patrick's Day parade, you won't want to miss this show. If you love Eddie Delahunt, you won't want to miss this show. If you think any cretin who'd vandalize a church grotto ought to be strung up by his toenails and used as a punching bag by the local CYO boxing team, you won't want to miss this show.

So that settles it. We'll see you there.
