It's nearly St. Patrick's Day season now, the time of year when Irishness creeps into every aspect of society. Before too long the local MalWart will be running ads featuring little cartoon leprechauns chirping about "the savin' o' the green" and you won't be able to turn the radio on without hearing announcers attempting Irish accents so badly you'll be tempted to steer the Hyundai into a telephone pole just to silence them. But there are some positives to the annual Hibernifying of the usually non-Irish world.
Take for example the upcoming events at fancy-pants Kansas City's Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. Thursday, March 12 it's "Cultural O'Cocktails". Okay, the name stinks. But the event sounds pretty great. It's a special Irish edition of the Nelson's weekly after-hours social event, this time featuring Irish food, whiskey and beers. 5:30 to 8:00 in the Museum Café. The very next night, Friday the 13th of March have dinner at the Rozzelle Court Restaurant inside the Nelson, which is without question the most beautiful place in town to eat. Again, Irish food and libations will be featured, plus live Irish music, though they don't specify who. I bet you can find out and while you're at it make your reservation for 6 or more by calling 816-751-1278.
