Once upon a time there was a big castle in Ireland. Oh, and it was magic, I'm pretty sure. And made out of emeralds with diamond doorknobs. And in the castle lived a leprechaun. No wait, a princess. And she'd been turned into a leprechaun by an evil witch. No, by a mischievous troll who lived under the drawbridge which I forgot to mention that the castle had, but it did. So now she, the princess, is all leprechauney and not too happy about it. Although, now that I think about it, why would she mind? She gets a pot of gold and magical powers and whatnot. Sounds better than being a lousy princess to me. So she thanked the troll and invited him to come live in the magic castle with her and they lived happily ever after. The end.
And that, kids is why I will not be entering the storytelling contest that our Irish Fest children's area is hosting this this, with its theme "An Irish Fairy Tale." If you're a kid and can write a better story than mine (and there's a sure bet) be sure to enter your tale. If you're a parent or a teacher, make it a project. You can find more details on how, when and where to enter on our Kids' Page or contact our head magical princess Shawn at kcifchildrens@everestkc.net.
