If you'll excuse a little personal bidness here, I want to update you on some Irish community news. As I mentioned last week, at the Westsider bar Friday evening the St. Patrick's Day parade committee bestowed its first annual Cullinan Family Spirit to a local family I happen to know pretty well. My own.
More accurately, though this is called a family award, the real recipient is and should be not me and my 8 sibs or our assorted and numerous offspring, but the matriarch of the Regan/McCunniff clan, my mother Patty. I don't think she'd mind me telling you, my mom is almost 84 years old. And more full of life, fun and spirit than anybody I know. She's the strong glue that holds us together and few families are held together more tightly. She'll rob you blind at the poker table, meet you for beers at the pub after and still be at Mass early the next morning. She climbed a 13,000+ foot peak in her native Colorado at the age of 76, then had a beer and a cigarette at the summit. She's a long time Irish Fest volunteer and never misses the parade with Lois and Anne, her partners in crime. She's funny as hell. She does not suffer fools gladly...or at all, now that I think about it. She's a great mother and if it's possible an even better grandmother to her 16 best friends. She's a rock and a rock star and my hero, and I congratulate her heartily and sincerely on a well deserved honor. Look for her in her fancy convertible in this year's St. Patrick's Day parade, right through the neighborhood where she's lived for 58 years or so.
Thank you to the parade committee for the wonderful honor.

Yea, Mom!!! Don't forget the proper parade wave - above the pearls, below the crown.

As I've said before in these pages, Patty Regan is my idol and role model. Way to go, Regan clan!
BTW, Dan, doesn't Pat head up the Westport organization---the one for people from Westports all over? I ask because my younger brother and his family are buying a place in Westport, New York.
Congratulations Patty and the rest of the Regans!
You're right, Dan. Patty is the glue, the anchor, the ties that bind you family (and expended family together). You and your sibs are all slackers and don't hold a candle to your Mom.
My "expended family"?
Hey -- are there any award type funds "expended" to the "expended" family as part of this honor? Just askin'. Could use a new up-do for the big day.
And by the way I resemble that slacker remark.
he left a lot of other stuff off your resume, like your killer scrabble game for example... all honor & glory be yours, mom! have a great time at the parade and don't take crazy chances! love, tee
