Research Trip

From high in the Utah mountains comes today's blog posting, where a sextet of Irish Festers will be doing serious investigation into the effects of skiing, laughing and drinking beer on Irish Festers. Because we're willing to go the extra mile like this, because we care, we hope the knowledge gained here will translate directly into a bigger and better Kansas City Irish Fest for you. Or whatever.

In the meantime, courtesy of Kevin Kiley, here's a glimpse into the New Year's Eve wedding of Irish Fest alum and talent factory Máirtín de Cógáin and the lovely Mitra Tabidian de Cógáin, world's greatest doctor. It's a four Cogan brush dance with brothers Máirtín, Finán, Éamonn, and father Barry Cogan.

Don't those Corkers have anything better to do?

...and let's hear it for the band!

It was truly an international
ensemble with members of the
Fuchsia Band and the famous
group Legacy from Jackson, Mississippi.

In the back, left to right...
Brian McGillicuddy ( Banjo, Fuchsia )
Mick Heffernan ( Flute, Fuchsia )
In the front, left to right...
Kevin McNally ( Original guitarist for Fuchsia )
Valerie Plested ( Fiddle, Legacy )
Eoin Verling ( Button Box, Fuchsia )
Don Penzien ( Guitar, Legacy )

Shameless plug for Legacy...
( Shocko? are you listening? )
One of the finest Irish Trad groups
in the country, based in Jackson,
Mississippi. Don and Valerie
are the core members of the group
which usually numbers 4 but often
becomes 5 when the famous American
Uillean Pipe player Timothy Britton
joins them.

Don and Valerie are also the founders
of the famous Jackson, Mississippi
Celtic Festival which is now in its 18th year!

Could this be the year that Legacy
makes an appearance at the Kansas City IrishFest? Hope so.
They are GREAT.
