Dave "Shocko" Shaughnessy, the guy who brings all that great music to the Irish Fest stages, a man who's been rightfully called a genius turns 40, yes 40 today. Dave celebrated early with some friends and colleagues last Friday and being a greeting card professional, I wrote this little poem for him which I placed in a Happy 95th Birthday card. On behalf of the entire Irish Fest staff, except Dave of course because why would he send a poem to himself, I'd like to share it with you now. We here at KCIF are nothing if not sentimental on these big occasions.
We know you’re only 40
But trust us when we say
You look a whole lot older
On this, your special day.
So maybe not quite 95
Or even 93
But you’re a sorry looking bastard
It’s plain for all to see.
Your youth is gone, your body’s shot
You’ve one foot in the grave
And we sure do hope that you enjoy
This happy birthday, Dave.
So as you limp into the years
Where you can’t control your bladder
Here’s a thing to think about
That might just make you gladder.
For even though the past is gone
And your best years are behind you
At least you’ve got good friends like us
Who will be here to remind you.
