You know what's crazy? Stage management at Irish Fest, homey. It's a madhouse. Everybody wants to be back there, few are supposed to be, band changeovers are chaotic, generators fail, schedules get squeezed...it's a job I couldn't do, I'll tell you that. You know who does it incredibly well? Today's birthday girl, Marcia Johnson. She's, you guessed it, 23 today.
Marcia, along with sister Mindy, keeps the Irish Fest Boulevard Stage humming- or singing, maybe- all weekend long no matter what hurdles the festival demons throw in the way. The only thing I've ever seen Marcia and Mindy not be able to handle was the disposal of a rat carcass that found its way backstage a few years ago. I was honored to help then, and I'm honored to call Marcia a friend and fellow festy.

My favorite Marcia story (by the way, ALWAYS take pains to spell the name the correct way) took place not at KCIF but at the Weston Irish Fest one year when I watched as Marcia - single-handedly - "escorted" a rowdy from the lowest depths of O'Malley's to the gate by the scruff of the neck.
This is DEFINITELY the kind of backstage people you need to keep things moving right along.
