To Help The Kids

Kiddies, you have only about three weeks to come up with a name for our fiddlin' Irish Fest cow. Now, I know that might be an intimidating task. I understand, believe me. Giving somebody the wrong name can cause problems for years. Just ask my son Stinknugget. So I thought I give you some tips on how we come up with names for cows and stuff where I work in the greeting place. Maybe this will help. Probably not.

First, make a list of a bunch of Irishy sounding stuff. Just whatever pops into your head.
  • Shamrocks
  • Green
  • Island
  • Sheep
  • Software developers
  • More sheep
  • Polish people
Okay, now make a list of cow-type things:
  • Moo
  • Udder
  • Ummm...moo
  • Ungulate
Last, make a list of girl's names. Irish girl names are better. Yes, our cow is a girl Ask your dad how to tell.
  • Aoife
  • Kathleen
  • Deirdre
  • Siobhan
  • Molly
  • Maggie
  • Oona
Your lists should probably be longer. And better. Now, mix and match and think about ways to tie the pieces together. Things like alliteration. That's where some of the words start with the same sound. Like Siobhan O'Softwaredeveloper. Molly McMoresheep. Or maybe look for rhymes. Like Oona McMoooona.

Okay, clearly I'm not very good at this. But I bet you'll do a lot better. Try it. And bring your cow name with you to Irish Fest or e-mail it to KCIFChildrens@everestkc.net. The best name will win a great prize.

I wonder if Stinknugget's come up with anything yet...
