Service Station

The jogging trail near my house was clogged with high school track teams this morning as early training begins, and it got me thinking. I have a son in high school now, God help me, and he's required as most students are these days to log a certain number of community service hours every year. So listen, high schoolers or parents of high schoolers: Did you know that the Kansas City Irish Fest, a 501c3 not-for-profit organization can help you rack up those hours? It's true, Magoo. How about a shift or two in recycling, you socially conscience young person? The children's area always needs bodies. Future teachers of America, that's the place for you. Football players, nothing builds upper body strength like carrying strollers up stairs all weekend. Perfect for your young athlete.

If there's one thing I always say, it's that I believe that children are our future. I can barely get through a day without saying that, often to no one in particular. I also believe they should get off their arses and get to work. Actually, maybe that's the one I say a lot. I'll have to ask my son.

Sign up now, young people!
