Dublin Bound
In the Irish Fest biz, you quickly learn that among all the great festivals across the country, and there are hundreds, there are two that are the big dogs. Two that still-young festivals like ours look to for inspiration and information. The Milwaukee and Dublin (Ohio) Irish Fests are those big two. At the tail end of this week Irish Festers Ed and Barb Scanlon, Ed Follis, Barney Walsh, Shawn Sullivan and myself will be making the trip east for The Dublin Irish Festival and I'll be reporting to you from there. You can check out the Dublin line up here and I'd welcome your input if you see a band that we may not know of and you think we should check out for KCIF. It'll be a preview show for K.C. performers Bad Haggis, Slide, Gaelic Storm and Scythian and a reunion with many of our old friends from other festivals who'll gather for a meeting on Saturday afternoon. We hope to come back with lots of stolen ideas to use here.

Bigger(Not Better)Fests for inspiration and information? Previewing Gaelic Storm & Enter the Haggis? I thought you were supposed to be busy this time of year? You will probably learn more from your own mistakes this year than a trip to OH.
I wish Blogger would develop a stupidity filter for anonymous comments. Do you honestly think we have nothing to learn from one of the most well-established and successful events of its kind in the world? That we can't be helped in making our festival better in our 6th year by meeting with the organizers of a larger event preparing for their 21st?
Do me a favor, Anonymous. If you're ever tempted to get involved in the organization and running of our festival, fight that urge.

Sorry, I have a very low dumbass tolerance, especially for people who can't even bring themselves to sign their names.
On a lighter note, I know you passed up a mighty tempting chance to come to Colorado for the First Ever! Fort Collins Irish Festival (same weekend as Dublin, OH).
Many Thanks to Dan Regan and Shawn Sullivan for all their invaluable help and advice in getting ready for this... I tell ya what, in terms of bigger and better, KCIF is what the Fort Collins Fest aspires to :)

Have a grand trip, Dan & company! If y'all haven't heard Beth Patterson, be sure to catch her---love to see her at KCIF sometime. Dublin's got Patrick Street this year---think y'all could find space for them in the line-up? Also, I really wish y'all would consider having a wolfhound contingency...or is there a rule against dogs at Crown Center?
