Raffle Travelers Heard From, Part 2

Rich and Beth, our lucky 2007 raffle winners have checked in again from their trip to Ireland. So yeah, they're having a great time over there galivanting around the island after winning a free trip at Irish Fest last year. But hey, I got a new pair of pants the other day. So I got that going for me.
Hello all,

Day 2 started early, but after a relaxing and restful evening, we were excited to get started. Joining our 11 traveling companions and Jim, our driver, we headed for the Cliffs of Moher. As we headed out, Jim filled us in on sports in Ireland, including football and soccer. Limerick, where we have been staying is a powerhouse for Rugby, their official football sport. And, as he pointed out, it is played without equipment, unlike the Americans, "who wrap their bodies in steel."

The weather was unbelievable today, with sunny skies, light breezes, and a high between 65 and 70. The great weather made viewing the cliffs a fantastic experience. After leaving the cliffs, we headed for Galway and a tour around the city. We spent a few hours in the city, having a lunch of fish and chips at McDonough's, a favorite spot. After a bit of shopping, a visit to Eyre Square, JFK park, and a walk through a couple of churches, we headed back for Limerick and dinner at the hotel. Because the country is so far north, it stays light quite late. At 10:30 p.m., it is just now getting dark.

After dinner, we joined another couple for a walk into the city and a visit to The Bank Restaurant and Pub. We were hoping to catch some live music, but being Friday night, it was not starting till later in the evening. However, we did meet and talk with a Mr. Cross, a local who has made many trips to the U.S. He kept all of us engaged with lively stories of local life, while we enjoyed a pint.

As tomorrow is an early morning (we leave for Adare and Dingle Peninsula before 8:00 a.m.), we'll sign off for now.

Until next time, we remain,

Rich and Beth
