Irish Fest Has A New President

A message from Shawn Sullivan Warner of the Irish Fest Children's Area:

If you meet the fairies on Hallow's Eve, then be sure to throw the dust from under your feet at them and they will be obliged to surrender any humans they are keeping captive. Good information to have if you are hanging around the Children's area at the Festival this year.

Yesterday, the Kansas City Irish Fest Kids Club met and kicked up some dust discussing fun Halloween doings for the Festival this year. Surprises are coming as each of the KCIFKC members is doing some special research on things Irish and Halloweenish.

The group is hoping that they get some more good Irish Tales in for the Essay Contest (see Children's web page). The team thought one of the best Irish Fest Moments last year was announcing the winners for 2007, and hearing the stories that had been written. The group thought that scary/magic Irish Tales might be appropriate for the contest this year.

Finally, officers have been chosen for the KCIFKC, all will be announced, but a SPECIAL Congratulations to the new President of the Kansas City Irish Fest Kids' Club - Mackenzie Magwire.

How do we describe Mackenzie? She has been volunteering at the Irish Fest for the last five years of her long life at 15. She is the Wackalaylee hostess, but may be found calling KCIF Bingo, running Spud Races and certainly greeting our guests with a million dollar smile. In her spare time away from Irish Fest, Mackenzie plays basketball, and works hard in school.

Mackenzie announced several missions for her two year term, the first is to entice every teen in the Metro area who wants Service Hours to just try volunteering in the Children's Area, she said once they do it, they will be hooked to all the fun everyone has - forever. Her second mission is to make sure that every child in the Metro area has a personal invitation to come and join in the fun at Irish Fest. There will be lots of surprises for this year, and everyone loves Halloween, so all the KC Area Kids should just be there and join in on the celebration.

Watch for more messages from Mackenzie and the other new officers of the KCIFKC.
Congratulations, Mackenzie!
