Gaelic Grub

St. Patrick's Day is just a short three days away now. The weather report is, let's say less than ideal, at this point. All the more reason that before you head downtown for the parade you need to fill up on a big, warm Irish fry.

Dozens of places in town offer St. Patrick's Day breakfasts. We don't care about them. I'm going two recommend the two I've had, presented by two members of the extended Irish Fest family. Keep it in the family, baby.

Domhnall Molloy, executive chef at McCormick & Schmick's on the Plaza is hosting Chef Molloy's Famous St. Patrick's Day Breakfast again this year. Beginning an hour earlier for 2008, Domhnie will be serving up 2 scrambled eggs, bangers (Irish sausage), rashers (Irish Bacon), fried tomato, O'Brien potatoes, mushrooms and thick slice of Irish soda bread from 7:00 AM-10:00 AM on Monday. All this, prepared by the Irish-born Molloy, for only $9.99. John Morris will also provide live music from 8:00-10:00. McCormick will also host an Irish Happy Hour from 2:00PM to 8:00PM later on The Day.

John, Kerry & crew at Browne's Irish Market & Deli will again host their traditional St. Patrick's Day morning feed. For a lot of Kansas Citians (including my dear old mother Patty McCunniff Regan) you just can't have St. Patrick's Day without a Browne's breakfast at the front end. Serving starts at 7:00AM and runs until 11:00 for the full traditional fry. There'll be live music by Dog Tree and The Kelihans and a live remote broadcast of the Dick Wilson & Co. morning show-Live on 94.9FM. There'll be bag piping by John Feehan, raffles, a moonwalk, face painting and all the Irish fun you could hope for, before and after the parade, all day long. Want to sample that Irish breakfast? Browne's will be serving it up tomorrow and Sunday mornings, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Redemptorist Center.

All this has served to make the bowl of Grape Nuts I was about to eat seem a little inadequate.
