From Special Irish Fest Eurovision Correspondent Ronan Collins

A puppet in the form of a turkey could be representing an entire nation at one of the world's cheesiest music competitions - and musicians are not happy.

The Republic of Ireland’s entrant into the European Song Contest could be Dustin the Turkey, a puppet from a popular children’s television show who was recently nominated by the state broadcaster.

Ireland’s possible Eurovision representative:
UK newspaper The Telegraph has reported that Dustin’s song Irlande Douze Points has emerged as one of the frontrunners of Ireland’s best tunes.

According to the newspaper, the song urged Eurovision judges to “give douze points to Ireland, for its lowlands and its highlands, for Wogan’s wig and Bono’s leather pants. We brought you Guiness and Westlife, 800-years of war and strife, but we apologise for Riverdance.”

The songwriter behind two Irish Eurovision winners, Frank McNamara, told The Telegraph he was shocked by the nomination.

“(It was) giving two fingers to Irish songwriters,” Mr McNamara said.

Another winning songwriter, Shay Healy, said he did not know “how any bunch of grown-ups could come up with this as a solution”. -NEWS.com.au

Last year's Irish entry was a turkey, so hey, why not?
