An Irish Saint. No, Not That One.

The greeting card company which employs me did not invent Valentine's Day, in spite of what my friend and fellow Irish Fest director Barney Walsh thinks. They've certainly made some serious jack on the back of poor old St. Valentine, and I can't even count all the cards I've designed for the heart fest. But the holiday itself we take no credit for. So when you celebrate the day with your honey, don't blame me or my corporate task masters.

But I'll give you a little Valentine's Day trivia. Did you know that St. Valentine himself, or what's left of him, resides in Dublin? True enough. He arrived in 1836 as a present from Pope Gregory XVI (I wouldn't want Pope Greg drawing my name for Christmas gift exchange) and is there, in the Whitefriar Street Church to this very day. So if you have a sweetie and you're stuck celebrating anyway, it's seems perfectly appropriate to put an Irish twist on the proceedings.

Eddie "Cupid" Delahunt to the rescue. Eddie will be crooning Irish love songs and serving up gourmet coffee specials and of course chocolates at his Café &, just east of State Line on 45th Street. The romance commences at 6:00 PM on Thursday the 14th, of course. Call Eddie at the Café, 816-753-3322 for more details or just to hear him whisper sweet nothings in your ear. That's what I usually do.

Cover for the greedy corporate mongers all you want, Dan. In protest, I made my own Valentines card for my sweety, and I didn't need your lame poem as a sentiment.

I stole a line from a movie instead.
