A Stage We're Going Through
Yesterday I was ice skating on the Irish Fest Terrace Stage.
Well, not on it exactly. I haven't yet joined the touring company of Paddies On Ice. But right where the stage will be in a little less than 240 days. If you're not from here, you may not now that that particular part of the Irish Fest grounds under that big weird looking tent spends its winters as an ice skating rink, the city's only outdoor rink. So I was thinking, as I went around and around the frozen site of so much Irish Fest fun over the last 4 years, about our stages.
The Terrace Stage is a funny thing. A challenge for us, really. Because there's a perception, usually correct, that if there's an event at Crown Center, its epicenter is there, on what we at KCIF call the Terrace Stage. As I say, that's usually correct for most events and festivals down here. Only that's not the case at Irish Fest, and less so than ever in 2008. This year, the Boulevard Stage will be bigger, higher and roomier than the Terrace Stage. The backdrop of the downtown skyscrapers, especially after dark, is spectacular. And our schedule will reflect the Boulevard Stage's status. There will be, of course, world-class Irish music on all our stages. But when you get here, especially if you're only coming one night, fight that urge to rush up to the Terrace level and plant yourself. Check out the entire site. The Boulevard Stage. The Atrium Stage. The Heritage and Children's Stages. You might find a new favorite place.

Is it a consideration at all to put up a tent to cover the area in front of the Boulevard stage? Last year there was a tent to the side, but who wants to be at the side of the stage? You had some great bands on that stage during the afternoon, but the sun was brutal! Also, could the traffic lights be turned off? Or at least not in the line of sight for the band members.....
Thanks for all you do! You put on a great fest up there in KC. I'd rather go to your fest than my local North Texas fest!
