It's magical Christmas time once again, and that can only mean one thing: I'm sick as a dog.
It's nearly as regular as the holiday displays going up on Halloween, and as dependable as Santa filling socks. Christmas and New Year's Eve will likely find me coughing, sniffling and wheezing when I should be ho ho hoing, fa la laing and auld lang syneing. I once spent a span of 7 consecutive New Year's Eves sick in bed, including 1999-2000, the biggest New Year's Eve of the last thousand years. I dragged myself out of bed a short while ago this morning after 12 hours fitful sleep last night, having missed a party I'd been looking forward to for weeks. This is not a good time to be me.
No, this has nothing whatsoever to do with Irish Fest (other than that if I die, which at the moment feels imminent, they'll have to find a new Uncle Bloggy). And I tell you this not to elicit sympathy, though I'll take all I can get. No, I'm looking for help. I've been breathing steam, taking fistfuls of remedies, homeopathic and mainstream, drinking so much water I'm growing gills and still I sit congested, coughing and achy. So, tell me: what works for you? Anybody? I'll take whatever advice I can get and all will be considered, if not not immediately and desperately implemented.
I thank you and my lungs thank you. Cough. And Merry Christmas. Sniff.

I've heard that Boulevard’s Nutcracker Ale cures whooping cough, the black plague, leprosy and most other major diseases.
I have no cures for you except whiskey, maybe. I just wanted to say get well. You must be in good shape for eddie's new year's eve.
Tell the story about the Vic'c Vapor Rub in the socks.
Barry's tea, hot as you can stand it, with Tullamore Dew, lemon and honey. It won't cure you, but it'll make you feel better about being sick.
Seriously, Dan, have you considered you might be allergic to Christmas?
Let's start with the herbal remedies: goldenseal, olive leaf extract, and echinacea (but only for a day or two).
Then the things that will help you feel better: fruit juices, brothy soups, tons of rest and sleep.
And most importantly: absorb the good juju being sent to you from your friends!
