No Laughing Matter

One of my favorite parts of the Kansas City Irish Fest the past couple years has been the Irish Comedy Stage. We've been lucky enough to have talented folks like Dermot Carmody, Barry Murphy, RuBen, Kevin Gildea, Anne Gildea and Brendan Dempsey cross the Atlantic to make us laugh. We've loved the Comedy Stage and the comedians. And we had intended to bring you another uproarious comedy show for the 2007 Fest.

But because of the increased cost, effort and organizational challenges of our planned expansion North into Pershing and Grand boulevards, and scheduling conflicts with our previous comedy venue in the American Heartland Theater, the Comedy Stage is going on hiatus for this year. For those of you who loved the comedy shows as much as we all did, our sincere apologies. The Irish Comedy Stage will return for 2008 in the brand new performing arts venue opening in Crown Center next year. The new theater will include a 250-seat thrust stage featuring audience seating on three sides and will occupy the site of the current Crown Center Cinema. It will be the perfect spot for Irish Comedy 2008. And we hope you'll be ready for a laugh.
