Kid Stuff

As a former child myself, (c. 1961-1979) I have a great affinity for the kids. With one notable exception, babies seem to like me (Oh yeah Seamus, I'm talking to you.) and young children for some reason seem to think of me as a non-threatening intellectual equal. So I'm always happy to spend time with the kids. That's why if I didn't already have 417 jobs over Irish Fest weekend, I'd volunteer for a shift in the Children's Area. You, not being me, should do exactly that today.

Why the Children's Area? You'll get to work with our kid's koordinator Shawn Sullivan-Warner, who is amazing and delightful and a joy to work with, unlike some of our cranky committee chairs. You'll be right in the heart of the action here at Crown Center and will never, never be bored. You'll get to work and play with the happiest (and largely, soberest) people at Irish Fest. Also the shortest, so if you yourself happen to be vertically challenged, here's a chance to feel like Yao Ming for four hours. Best of all you'll be helping us at the very heart and soul of Irish Fest, our families.

We need a boatload of volunteers in this area. If you have a church organization, a bridge club, a Bunco group or a motorcycle club, why not sign up as a group? Do it today. The kids need you. Isn't that reason enough?*

*Of course it's not. You'll also get a free pass to Irish Fest, a free T-shirt, free refreshments during your shift and all the other perks of volunteering. "The kids need you. Isn't that reason enough?" I swear, sometimes I crack myself up.

Hmmm...what happened in 1979 that ended your childhood so abruptly?
