If you're free this evening about 7:30, stop by Charlie Hooper's Bar on 63rd St. in Brookside. In the back room there, you'll find the monthly meeting of a very friendly group of people who call themselves the Celtic Fringe.
Founded 13 years ago by a group of newly-arrived Irish immigrants, the Fringe has long been active in all Irish goings-on in our town. They are perhaps best known for an amazing string of successes in the St. Patrick's Day Parade, culminating in a Grand Prize win in 2006, but they're also active in local charities, group activities and some high quality socializing. Many of the leaders of the Kansas City Irish Fest came from the membership rolls of the Celtic Fringe. They're always looking for new members, and the meetings are open and casual. As a matter of fact, this may be the least formal group you'll ever join.
Stop by, have a beer, introduce yourself and see if you're interested in joining up.
