Visitors' Choice Awards

I've just come from the lovely awards luncheon put on by the Kansas City Convention & Visitors Association. The food was delicious, the company delightful, the music entertaining, the speakers engaging.

Oh, and we won.

The Kansas City Irish Fest is our town's Best Festival or Special Event, as voted by our out-of-town visitors. We beat out wonderful events like The American Royal, The Kansas City Renaissance Festival, The Plaza Art Fair, the Rhythm & Ribs Jazz Fest and Santa-Cali-Gon Days, with whom we share the Labor Day weekend. Great events, each worthy of your support.

And to the organizers of those events as well as the other festivals and events not nominated, in the spirit of good sportsmanship, we say:

IN YOUR FACE, LOSERS! IRISH FEST RULES!

I kid, course. We love those guys and were honored to be nominated and included in that group. With just four festivals under our belts, we don't feel quite worthy to share a list of the city's best with such great and venerable events. Seems like we should still be sitting at the little kids table. But we'll take it.

Thanks to all who voted for us. We plan on rewarding that pat on the back with the best festival we've ever put on this summer.

So I guess the Java script I wrote that voted 5,000 times for KC Irishfest came in handy. I'll keep the script around. Ya never know when they might want to hear from us out-of-towners again.

( My turn to be just kidding, of course. )

Seriously... Congratulations. It's a nice honor!

What were the actual counts?
Was it even close?
