Some exciting news from Brett Gibson, veteran of Irish Fest appearances with the Elders, Eddie Delahunt, and whoever else needed a world class traditional accordion player to sit in. Brettski will we taking a detour from the trad road on April 28th when he performs the Concerto for Bandoneon and Orchestra by Astor Piazzolla. You know what's crazy, I was just listening to that on my iPod this morning.
Says Brett: "I'm actually doing it on accordion rather than Bandoneon just to make my life a little easier. Piazzolla wrote Tango music for this instrument and is probably the most important contributor to Argentinean Tango over the last 40 years. He's dead now of course, which has made his music more popular than ever - something musicians worry about constantly. The Concerto itself is a 3 movement work of only about 20 minutes in total, all in what he pictured life to be if it were a Tango."
Whoa...maybe your life isn't a Tango, Brett, but don't lump us all into that category. The concerto is at 7:30 PM, April 28th at the Church of Atonement at 99th and Metcalf, and Brett will be accompanying the Civic Orchestra. The venue will hold about 600 people and will fill up so arrive early. Donations at the door are appreciated.
