Ed Said #9

Irish Fest president Ed Scanlon has been checking his calendar and wants you to know what he found.

"Bake a cake and light some candles today is the birthday of one great musician. Richard Thompson. How familiar are the fest fans with Richard and his music? Richard played at the Milwaukee Irish Fest in 2006. Great show indeed. How about a survey type response to judge the interest in having Richard at the KCIF. At any rate enjoy celebrating his birthday today and listen to some of his music. I for one am always looking for a reason to celebrate."

For those of you poor unfortunates unfamiliar with the great musician that Ed's talking about, here he is doing one of his all time greats, Vincent Black Lightning 1952. While I wasn't able to be at his show in Milwaukee, I've seen Richard Thompson a half dozen times or so and aside from being the best guitarist I've ever seen live and an all around great performer, he's a walking musical history book. Check into his 1000 Years of Popular Music to see what I mean. I mentioned once to my brother Pat, another fan of RT's that we might consider bringing him here for Irish Fest, and his response was "you have my permission to use your entire music budget on him." -DR.

Any interest? TONS!!!!!!!! Count me as a resounding YES. Count me as several resounding Yeses if you want.

Unfortunately, I don't seem to have siblings with great musical taste like Dan. I did play my sis some of 1000 Years DVD the other night- she was sitting there going "who is this guy?" Ah, the uninformed! I see my mission and it is clear....

I've seen RT several times and agree that he is quite a talent but wonder how he would relate to an Irish festival such as KCIF.

That's what I like about the fest. You always have great entertainment! I don't always know them, but you have helped bring new entertainment that I enjoy.
