As a public service to everybody who's interested enough in the Kansas City Irish Fest to read this blog on a regular (or irregular) basis, beginning today we'll be presenting on a regular (or irregular) basis posts from our brand new (slightly irregular) president Ed Scanlon. These presidential addresses, like today's, will be under the clever rhyming "Ed Said" title which I made up all by myself. So when you see that title, what follows is important stuff from the president and you should pay attention. The rest of the time it's just me and likely to be the same old useless crap, so you can probably just skim or read every other word or just the vowels or something. Got it? Okay. All rise. Cue "Hail To The Chief". Take it away, Ed.
As festival president I intend to share with you some festival information, important information, and standard Scanlon needless bits of knowledge. I would assume you can call these fireside chats, but from here at festival HQ some days they will be stove top chats, bar-b-que smoker chats or smokey ash tray chats from the pub. As the contracts for the bands start coming in they are looking like we are buying a house not hiring a band. Looking back at the days of our parking lot beginnings in Brookside the entertainers' were hired with a phone call. "Eddie this is Ed Scanlon. Do you want to play a festival up in Brookside?"..."pay you? well I guess so. How much you want?"..."How about $50.00 if no one shows up and $100 if we get a crowd". With that we were off to the races. Now the professional work of Dave "Shocko" Shaughnessy is resulting the best entertainment our budget can handle. We are currently pacing the floor waiting for word on couple of "big surprises". This is as exciting as back in the parking lot wondering on Saturday afternoon if the next band was actually going to show up or would the generator belch black smoke and all power to the stage is gone. Today we are in Crown Center with the best equipment and the greatest support crew. Now the only anxious moments are wondering which big act will we book next. As you can tell we are all very excited about 2007 and hope to be announcing many new exciting changes.
Ed Scanlon

Remember what our total Brookside entertainment budget was that first year...$3500. Ah, the good old days!
