I think the last drawing or raffle I won was in 1969. A guy from Duncan yo-yos came to the Westport Community Center around the corner from our house and did some yo-yo tricks and they had a drawing. I won a sparkly orange yo-yo. Never could work the damn thing. And yet, hope springs eternal and I am biologically incapable of not buying a raffle ticket when the opportunity presents itself. I bought one yesterday at the St. Patrick's Day Parade committee's Halfway To St. Patrick's Day party. You'll be not too surprised to hear that my streak continues. Luck of the Irish, my arse.
Anyway, other people are fortunately not so cursed. For example, these winners from the 2006 Kansas City Irish Fest raffle.
Kendra Keller and a lucky companion are going to Ireland, on us and Marriott Vacation Club International.
Ellie Shaw is a cool $500 richer, thanks to her $5 investment.
And Larry Ortega (shouldn't that be O'Rtega?) will be whooping it up with 30 of his buddies at Boulevard Brewery tasting room party.
As for me, far from being discouraged, the success of these three instead renews my hope in a future win. Because I'm optimistic, I'm positive, I'm a glass-half-full kind of guy! Or I'm a serial loser who doesn't know when to quit.
Either way, put me down for 5 tickets. And congratulations to all our winners.

Hey Danny- what is the theme for this year's parade? I always win contests so I didn't go the the party so others would have a chance to win this time.
I left before the winning theme was announced. As soon as I find out what it is, I'll post it.
