With Irish Fest 2006 barely over, we've already begun planning 2007. And we want your help.
Who do you want see on our stages next year? A return engagement from a 2006 band? A local talent from your neck of the woods that we may not have heard about? A favorite from a previous year that you've missed? How about non-musically? We're thinking about adding some theater. Like that idea? Your thoughts on our comedy shows? Our workshops?
This is your festival and we're listening. Let us know.
Addendum: Seriously, enough with the "Bring back Ellis Island" posts. We got the message. Thank you. You're starting to piss me off.

You should get more of those little game stands.
I'm partial to Teada and Eileen Ivers. I would love to see them again! Of course I wouldn't be opposed to seeing Enter The Haggis again, either.

Have you considered a video monitor at the terrace stage for the folks out on the lawn? Of course, maybe you have and decided against it. I realize that there are logistical challenges with such a thing, and so maybe it's not something doable. But I figure it's worth a mention.
more gaelic storm
more 7 nations
less elders
less black 47
My goodness, where to start! :) I would love to see Nebraskas home team the Wild Clover Band back on the Boulevard stage, and Fuschia as well as Teada are always fantastic... Gaelic Storm & Enter the Haggis (and possibly Wolfstone) are always personal fav's for the Terrace Line Up...
That's my .02 pence worth.. :)

Last year's comedy was better than this year's although Ruben was great! For $5 I'll for sure go again next year.
Gaelic Storm(Awesome show on Sunday)
Hothouse Flowers(Worth the price of admission just to see them)
McCabes(Assuming they are a band)
Elders(vary the set more because Sunday night seemed a bit stale)
Dancers(other group in addition to O'Riada)
Young Dubs(Never seen bad Young Dubs show)
Eileen Ivers(Alternate years with ETH)
It was my first KC Irish Fest, although I have been to tons of festivals. It seemed to be an Irish music festival, not just general Irish festival. I love the music, but I would add some more of the culture. The Heritage info was good. The heritage/children's stage missed the mark a bit, I felt. As a mom, I wanted to have more kids shows, I can only entertain the wee ones so long playing Irish bingo. So I would have a Heritage stage and a Children's stage. The workshops are great for young adults and up, but the wee ones needed something to do then. And I enjoyed the geneology 101, but my kids, not so much, so break it into two stages. Maybe more Stone Lion! More Stinkey Feet! How about some story telling before the evening, I couldn't keep young ones there from 11am puppet time to 7pm story time. Fushcia Band teaching the wee ones to dance, awesome. How about some fancy dance costumed kids in there to help lead? And so the wee ones could get excited by them. I liked the Irish cottage, but felt it was underused. The kid's parade was fun. Bingo, I wish they would have explained a little bit more about the icons being used (some callers did better than others) so they could learn more. And for the Bingo prizes, it should have been free. Wack a Laylee should have been free, too. (We bought arm bands, but found the bingo prizes were not worth it.) Oh, and who did win the coloring contest and the how many words can you make out of Kansas City Irish Fest anyway? We enjoy coloring, but you can do that anywhere. Kalidescope was fun, the kites seemed shaped like a family crest, so maybe have a book of popular Irish family crests there so kids can find theirs and recreate them.
Kids are free to get in, which I appreciate, but I did pay the adult admission, so wanted them to learn a lot. I think the admission is fine if you consider the music side, so call it KC Irish Music Fest, but in general, other festivals do offer more edu-tainment for the dollar. Maybe you don't have room for the extra tent? And maybe I'm the only mom who thinks kids will appreciate the music more if they understand the history and culture it comes from. I did brief my kids on their geneology and discuss the geography and location of Ireland prior to the event. More for the stage: skit on potato famine, skit of origin of jack-o-lantern, complete with turnip carving, what about St Pat, or some leprecauhn stories? Now I know good Irish folks can always be thinkin'up some good stories!
More 7N, less Elders. Bring back Wild Clover Band, Enter the Haggis,Teada~there can never be too much music!! JSB
Missed going this year because of a family committment, but hope to get there next year. How about bringing back the great WILD CLOVER BAND...sure did enjoy them in 2005. They were a great addition to the lineup.
:)
I like the Wild Clover Band!!!!
Definitely Elders and Gaelic Storm. I also would request Fuchsia Band - I'd want to catch more of their contributions. I didn't care for Black 47 at all, have seen Enter the Haggis twice and was not impressed, and 7 Nations was okay - didn't knock the socks off. I'd love to see trad groups like Danu or Altan.
Ellis Island back on the Main Stage or the Boulevard Stage
I want to see Ellis Island I love that band
Would love to see the Saw Doctors come to Kansas City. Have seen them three times and it is a great show!
I would love to see Ellis Island again, and definitely Gaelic Storm as well.
We would really like to see Ellis Island back on either the main stage or pub stage - they are wonderful and even let us dance!
I would love to see Ellis Island again. I missed seeing them perform this year - even though I saw them in town. Please put them on the Main stage or the Pub stage.
Would also love to see The Elders, Enter the Haggis, Old Blind Dogs and the Fuschia Band again!!! They are all great.
In talking with my bandmates I realized that I left a couple off of my wish list. Siucra and Old Blind Dogs were awesome in previous fests!
Love to see more of Ellis Island on the Main stage. Great music, great fun, great energy. We loved them
Let's see some more Ellis Island in 2007. I have yet to see an Irish band engage the audience the way Dave and Mick can.
Love to see more trad or accoustic on the main stage. The following would be great groups:
Teada
Tom Landa & The Paperboys
Altan
OBD
Bodega
Danu
Lunusa
Kila
Dougie Maclean
Milladoiro
Shooglenifty
The Heatons
Baka Beyond
Matapat
And bring back, Grada, Millish, 5mile Chase, John Redmond and Something for the House.
Brilliant job this year! Am looking forward to next year!
Cheers!
I always enjoy Gaelic Storm, so creative with originals and traditional pieces, and around here we all love the Wild Clovers, of course!
we want to see Ellis Island, they are the BEST!! Elders and Gaelic Storm are nice, but it's nice to see some up and coming acts. Bring back Ellis Island!!!
Why was'nt ELLIS ISLAND there this year? I didnt see them on the roster so I did'nt go.
Wild Clover Band by all means!
i'd also like to see more 7n, and more gaelic storm, and i'd like to see eileen ivers here next year. i think there should be less black 47 and less elders. 7n and eileen ivers should come back next year.
Our family would like to see, as my son calls them, The Wild Wild Clover Band, and on the recomendation of the percussionist Enter the Haggis. But whomever plays the festival is a hit.
Please bring back Seamus Kennedy! His children's show was outstanding as was his Boulevard Stage show. Of course, bring back Gaelic Storm, ETH and Black 47. 7N, to us, was a rock band with bagpipes - lots of folks left when they started playing.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE - have only a few designated smoking areas next year and ban smoking in the concert areas. I hate watching inconsiderate smokers baste children in their secondhand smoke!!
