Benefit

For those who might be reading in or near the great state of Nebraska, I want to let you know about an event that I hope you'll support. Our friends at The Wild Clover Band (Kansas City Irish Fest '05) have sent along this message from guitarist Tim Sharkey:

Dear Cloverfans,
As some of you may know, my wife, Vicky, was very sick during the first half of this year. She has had surgical operations for kidney stones and for ovarian cysts, as well as being diagnosed with Lupus, and also with a blood disorder that causes her blood to clot too easily. She is doing much better now, but she has seen a virtual parade of doctors and has been in and out of the hospital numerous times since January, and medical bills are mounting. This, combined with lost income from her not being able to work at all during April, May, June, and half of July, have put us in a bit of a pinch financially.
Our church, Fredericksburg Lutheran in Minden, is hosting a Pancake Feed and Homemade Ice Cream Social on August 6th, from 5pm to 9pm, at the Kearney County Fairgrounds in Minden. The event will feature an excellent Christian band from Lexington, NarroWay, followed by your favorite Irish Band, The Wild Clover Band!
Proceeds of the event, along with some matching funds being offered by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, will be used to defray some of the medical bills we’ve incurred. So please join us! Come out for some great pancakes and homemade ice cream (and I’ll tell you from personal experience, the folks at Fredericksburg Church know how to make ice cream!), and enjoy some great music!
Thank you and God Bless!
--- Tim Sharkey
How to find the Kearney County Fairgrounds:
The Fairgrounds are located about ½ mile north of Minden on Nebraska Highway 10. From the north, take Highway 10 south towards Minden. You’ll see the fairgrounds on the left, in between the American Legion baseball field and the airport, which is known as Pioneer Village Field. From the south, take Highway 10 north through Minden, then look for the fairgrounds on your right just past the golf course. From points east or west, take US Highway 6&34 to Minden, then turn north at Pioneer Village onto Highway 10 and look for the fairgrounds on the right just past the golf course.
P.S. – if you can’t attend, but would still like to help, you can send a donation to: Fredericksburg Lutheran Church, 616 33 Road, Minden, NE 68959. Please make checks payable to Fredericksburg LC / Sharkey Benefit.

If you can, please consider helping someone who helped bring some really great music to the Irish Fest stage last year. Thanks.

Dan, thank you so much for posting this! The benefit was a success -- we had over 230 people show up for pancakes, ice cream, and music. Not bad for a town of only 2900 people!
