The Kansas City Irish Fest, as you know, is the child born of the marriage of the Brookside Irish Fest, formerly held on Labor Day weekend, and the Westport Irish Festival, in the past held on Memorial Day weekend. I was there in Kyle Kelly's kitchen when this arranged marriage took place back in October of 2002. And the four of us who were there that fateful day chose to have the Kansas City Irish Fest over Labor Day weekend, simply so we've have more time to plan it that first year. The downside of course, being that Memorial Day weekend was left high and dry in terms of Irish events in Kansas City.
Into that breech steps Governor Stumpy and his Celtic Block Party.
This Sunday, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Stumpy's in beautiful Waldo. The Elders, Tullamore, Fireside, Jim Cosgrove and Flanagan's Right Hook are scheduled. A benefit for St Vincent's Operation Breakthrough, the Celtic Block Party is jointly presented by Locks & Pulls Inc. and Governor Stumpy's.
Tickets are $10 at the gate. Governor Stumpy's is at 321 East Gregory, at Oak Street. Call 816-806-1027 for details.
C'mon. You're off work on Monday anyway. I'll see you there.
